Ingredients
Scale
Fritter Batter
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- Vegetable oil spray, for cooking
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly combined.
- Combine Wet Ingredients. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Mix well until fully combined to create a smooth liquid mixture.
- Make the Batter. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the fritters tender.
- Add Apples. Gently fold the diced apples into the batter ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout.
- Preheat Air Fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for about 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
- Prepare Fritters. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a parchment paper-lined air fryer basket, making sure the fritters do not touch each other for proper air circulation.
- Apply Oil Spray. Lightly spray the tops of the fritters with vegetable oil spray to encourage browning and crispiness.
- Cook the Fritters. Air fry the fritters for 8-10 minutes until golden brown, flipping them halfway through to ensure both sides cook evenly.
- Make the Glaze. While the fritters cook, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth and pourable.
- Cool Slightly. Once cooked, transfer the fritters to a wire rack to cool slightly before glazing.
- Glaze and Serve. Drizzle the vanilla glaze over the warm apple fritters and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure apples are diced into small, even pieces to cook through properly inside the fritter.
- Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense fritters; a few lumps are okay.
- Use parchment paper in the air fryer basket to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- If your air fryer does not have good circulation, cook fritters in batches if needed.
- The glaze can be adjusted in thickness by adding more powdered sugar to thicken or more milk to thin it out.
